Ban Gioc Water Fall (Cao Bang Province) – The Hidden Heaven In Vietnam

Waking up in a morning, I just felt a little bit exhausted and bored. Turned on the laptop and surfed the internet. A picture of a splendid waterfall called Ban Gioc caught my attention and boosted my mood. I knew this was the place to go for relaxing and immersing in nature.

After 1 week researching all information, I decided to book a 3-day tour to discover this wonderful Fall. I was really astonished by the majesty of the fall when I first saw it in the real life and understand why it is not random the Fall ranks the 4th place in the list of the top 10 most amazing waterfalls published by WonderList.

Fantastic View

Located in the northeastern province of Cao Bang, the fall is 30 meters high and 300 meters across, making Ban Gioc the widest (though not the highest) waterfall in Vietnam.

Majestic View from Ban Doc Waterfall

The path going to the fall threads through rice fields, over wooden bridges above gurgling creeks, and onto an exposed grassy bank at the bottom of the falls. The wide, white cascade is fringed with foliage and framed by sharp, tooth-like limestone mountains, which are partly obscured by drifting clouds of vapor from all the spray generated by the waterfall. Please do stop by at the nearby hilltop temple (you can see the temple from the falls) as it gives you a panoramic view of the waterfalls and the limestone dotted the hilly landscape of Ban Gioc.

Moreover, there are lots of beautiful spots around the base of the falls on which to sit and take in the spectacle. I found a place on a grassy bank and gazed in awe at one of Vietnam’s most romantic sights. It seemed like the time stopped and I forgot all my strains and worries.

Tourist Attractions Nearby

There’s an impressive limestone cave system, called Nguom Ngao Cave just a few kilometers on the right before reaching Ban Gioc waterfall. A kilometer-long walkway leads through the caves, which are beautifully lit and very impressive. Tread carefully because the pathway can be very slick!

Beautiful Nguom Ngao Cave

If you are a history lover, Pac Po Cave will be your favorite. Uncle Ho (Ho Chi Minh president) took shelter in this small cave in one of the most remote regions of Vietnam, 3km from the Chinese border. The cave and surrounding area are sacred ground for Vietnamese revolutionaries – this is the base from which Ho launched the revolution he’d long been planning. Pac Bo Cave is 58km northwest of Cao Bang. Even if you have little interest in the history of Vietnamese communism, the cave is in a beautiful location surrounded by evergreen forests filled with butterflies and birdsong and overlooked by limestone mountains.

Ba Be Lake would be a beauty spot worth to visit. It was recently recognized by UNESCO as the third Ramsar site in Vietnam - an important wetland of the world. The lakes have a lot to offer, including waterfalls, rivers, valleys, lakes, and caves.  All create a picturesque landscape.

One word! Peaceful

Excellent Local Food

Vietnam has been famous for Pho. In different regions, Pho brings different tastes. The sour Pho of Cao Bằng has definitely held the limelight spot of Cao Bang cuisine. Cao Bang Pho is a cool, flavorful abundant and it is suitable to eat during autumn or summer.

Cao Bang has the right weather and the right soil to grow the best soybean. The soybean is highly nutritious (consist of mineral, calcium…) and also fat and can be deliciously cooked.  The locals make many wonderful cuisines which are good for your health and also delightfully tasty. In my first lunch in Cao Bang, tofu made from soybeans was fried with tomato sauce and dipped with lemon fish sauce or shrimp sauce. I ate a large bowl of rice, so delicious!

Healthy Tofu

Cao Bang dishes are tasty and affordable for diners. Steamed rice rolls, Seven Flavors of roasted ducks, ant’s eggs cake are also must-tries when visiting Cao Bang.

Time

I began my trip to Ban Gioc Fall Cao Bang in late March, the dry season in Vietnam. The water was not the most massive but still amazing. It is said that the best time to visit Ban Gioc Fall would be from April to October since it rains sometimes. You can see a big waterfall and you can swim in its cool water.

Well, I guess, your time has come and don’t wait any longer. Pack your luggage and discover the spectacular Ban Gioc. I promise it would be the best experience ever once happened in your life.
